To access TCP/IP, click Start | Settings | Control Panel.
Double-click the Network icon.
If TCP/IP is not
installed for the Ethernet card, install it. Click on Add.
Double-click Protocol, or highlight Protocol and click Add. (Windows may build a Driver Database)
Click on Microsoft. Double-click TCP/IP, or
highlight TCP/IP and click OK. (This may add Client for Microsoft Networks as well.)
If Client for Microsoft Networks is not installed, install it. Click Add.
Double-click Client, or highlight Client and click Add.
Click Microsoft. Double-click Client for Microsoft Networks, or highlight Client for Microsoft Networks and click OK. (Windows may build a Driver
Database.)
Click the Identification tab.
Enter customer's computer name in the Computer Name field using lower case letters. Ensure Work group is "@home", as shown below. Computer Description
can be left blank. Click on Configuration when finished. (You must enter a Computer Name in order to proceed in Windows 98.)
To configure TCP/IP, double-click TCP/IP (pointing to Ethernet card, if more than
one), or highlight TCP/IP and click Properties.
Ensure IP Address tab is set to Obtain IP Address Automatically. Click DNS Configuration tab.
Ensure Disable DNS is selected, and all values are blank.
Click on Gateway tab.
Ensure that there are no gateways installed. Click WINS Configuration tab.
Ensure Disable WINS Resolution is selected. Click OK.
Ensure Primary Network Logon is set for
Client for Microsoft Networks. Click OK. (Windows may want to copy files from the Windows CD or .CAB files on hard drive)
Click OK to restart computer and allow changes to take effect.
